DIGITAL ORGANISATIONDAMStreetSmarts_FolderStructure.jpg

Being organised is vital in any subject, but particularly in English. Here are some suggestions to help you start and stay organised with your new digital information.

Office 365 enables you to setup Folders and subfolders for all your school work. You need to do this for English.
You could also set up a Notebook in your Office 365 page for English. This Notebook can have a different section for each unit and a different page for each activity within the unit. Have a look at the image below for an idea of how this might look.

ASSESSMENT

Each unit or major assessment task will have a Task sheet outlining what you will be assessed on. It is essential that this be kept. These will be emailed to you and your parents..

ALL ASSESSMENT WILL BE BASED ON THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
(click the icon to the right to see them)

EACH TASK WILL HAVE ITS OWN PARTICULAR STANDARDS. Here's a sample:

If you require an extension then you must see me with a note from your parent beforehand.

Late work without a legitimate excuse will receive a “0” and will need to be completed at lunchtime.

The vast majority of work will be word-processed.

Always back up computer-based work. Computer and/or printer failure is an unacceptable excuse for late work (English Department policy).

Your assessment will be based on the same Content Descriptors and will look like this:

You have a timetable to follow and will be expected to complete the set tasks. Examples of English homework tasks include:

* completing existing assignments

* reading a class or own choice text

* practicing an oral or dramatic presentation

* maybe even watching a TV programcopyplagiarism.jpg

You should use the allocated time to complete your homework. For the most part, weekly homework will be published via Office 365 Newsfeed. Be on the lookout. You will need to follow my Year 8 Office 365 page.

PLAGIARISM

This is copying – either from another student and/or books, CD Roms, and the Internet. The English Department has very strict guidelines and “punishments” for those who choose to copy - so don’t be tempted.

If you use material from sources other than your own brain, always refer to it in a “Bibliography” or use footnotes to indicate where you got the information.

That’s about all. The rest we will work out as we go along. Enjoy the course and please see or contact me if you ever get stuck, have a problem, or need extra help.

Good luck for the year.
